Jack London was a contradictory figure. He argued for socialist principles and women`s rights, but he himself lived a materialist life of luxury. He preached equality and the brotherhood of man, but in novels like The Call of the Wild, he celebrated violence, power, and brute force, Martin Eden, which reflects the contradictory nature and thought of London consisting of Nietzschean, Marxist and Darwinist elements, isn`t an exception.
